As Dietitians, we often feel a bit "stuck" in being able to be effective with our clients and more deeply understand their experiences, whilst staying true to our scope of practice. The work that we do IS therapeutic (or that's the aim!) and as such, we can't ignore the importance of what we and our clients are both bringing which shows up the room. Thoughts and beliefs, emotions (think about fear, distress, anger, sadness, frustration - and that might be just us!), body sensations and so much more. Whether we want to or not, we ARE working in relationship.
This unique 5-part series is not about taking on the role of a therapist, but more about supporting us to "join the dots" with what inevitably shows up in our room and supporting us to work both "with" and "in" the relationship with clients in ways that can really make a difference.
Our 5 speakers come from both Dietetics and Psychology, bringing a wealth and depth of wisdom and experience to the topics. We will start with the foundation of asking "what does it mean to BE in relationship?" then traverse the topics of Attachment, Transference and Counter-transference, Distress Tolerance before finishing with understanding our empathy setpoint.
