As Dietitians, Supervision and Consultancy is a relative newcomer in our field, unlike that within therapy and mental health where supervision is very much "core practice." As a result, there are some significant gaps in RDs understanding what Supervision is (and is not!) and there are very few opportunities - apart from in Australia where it's well established with thanks to Tara MacGregor who established Dietitian Supervision Resources Australia (DSRA) - for Dietitians specifically to learn "how" to be a Supervisor using solid frameworks and practice models. Please do consider Tara's very high quality live online (morning time AEST) training for Dietitians around the world looking to solidify and step up supervision skillfulness.
The reality is that Dietitians from all sectors are often in positions where we are caring for others as we are caring our ourselves, and Supervision - when done well -can literally be a career-saver for RDs. What we are coming to realise is that Supervision is so much more than consulting on "cases" - rather, Supervision requires a distinct skill-set that bring unique challenges and invites us into very specific ways of supporting our colleagues. Many of us have not learned through training, we've learned through replicating the supervision we've had ourselves, resulting is a widely varying qualities and experiences of supervision.
This Supervision training aims to support Dietitians in getting clear about how we can contribute to supervision being a highly relational experience which underpins a quality, safe and ethical exchange in the service of the learning and growth of our supervisees. Our aim is that you will leave feeling more clear and confident in your work as a supervisor, and re-invigorated to bring your skills to life in practice.
Supported by Directors of Nutrition at Thira Health, Within and The Renfrew Center, the 2024 training events will comprise 2 x live online sessions, followed by live, full day face-to-face training in 4 cities - Seattle, Austin, Boston and London, UK. This training has been held previously in Boston (2022) and Denver (2023) for groups of Dietitians at treatment centres.

This is most suitable for Dietitians who are already Supervising other Dietitians either in or outside your workplace/practice plus at least 6 years of solid clinical practice plus being in your own supervision for at least 2 years. If you are in your own supervision (minimum 2 years, 1:1) and have at least 6 years of clinical practice, please discuss this training with your supervisor to explore whether this is a good match and we would love to have you! It’s important to us that this training rests on a solid foundation of clinical practice and orientation to supervision as a practice and we want to support people newer to being a supervisor as well.
Equity and group rates are available
Please note that it is trusted that each person will be bringing an awareness of limits to their practice based on codes of conduct and standards of practice as named by national organisations.
